CUMBERLAND — A city man was arrested Wednesday on charges stemming from an alleged armed robbery of a taxi cab driver last week in the Grand Avenue area, Cumberland Police said.
Devin T. Smith, 18, was charged with armed robbery, theft under $100, dangerous weapon with intent to injure and second-degree assault in connection with the Feb. 2 incident.
Smith remained jailed Thursday on $45,000 bond.
Police said Smith allegedly entered a taxi cab and demanded money from the driver, who believed Smith was armed with a knife. The victim reportedly struggled with the accused before he exited the taxi in the area of North Centre Street.
Officers responded to the location where the suspect was picked up by the taxi driver as part of the investigation that identified Smith as a suspect in the case.
