Szymanski sends Times-News over WEPCO, 10-4

Cumberland Times-News

POTOMAC PARK — Eddie Szymanski tripled and singled twice to knock in four runs and had the big hit in a six-run first inning to lead the Times-News to a 10-4 victory over WEPCO in Game 2 of the Rec Baseball League Championship Series Wednesday at Holler Field.

The third and deciding game of the best-of-three finals will be played Friday, 5:30 p.m., at Holler Field. WEPCO won the first game on Monday by a score of 6-5.

On Wednesday, the Times-News wasted little time in evening the series after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, following with a six-run bottom half, with Szymanski clearing the bases with his triple.

The Times-News added a single run in the third, while WEPCO scored two in the top of the fourth. But a two-run fifth and another single run in the sixth was more than plenty to send the teams to Friday’s deciding game.

Aaron O’Rourke and Connor O’Rourke both had two singles for the Times-News, while starting pitcher Jacob Foreman worked the first six innings, giving up just four singles and striking out five. Aaron O’Rourke worked a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win.

For WEPCO, Jeremy Shingler had two singles and three RBIs, and Marcus McGinnis had two singles.
