BUFFALO MILLS, Pa. - Rollo A. "Rod" Clapper, 96, of Hope Road, Buffalo Mills, died on Monday, June 26, 2006, at his residence.

Born on Feb. 13, 1910, in Tatesville, he was a son of the late Reuben and Elizabeth Ann (Crocker) Clapper. He was also preceded in death by Frances M. (Luman) Clapper, his wife of 70 years in 2003; a son, Gregory Karl Clapper; brothers, Fred Clapper, Paul Clapper, Aubrey Clapper; sisters, Irma Carman, Virginia Fulcher, and Ruby Coder. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are children, Richard "Dick" Clapper and wife Sara (Adams),Collegeville, Mary May and husband Donald "Pep" May, Esther Baker and husband Jacob, all of Buffalo Mills, Paula Zan, and foster daughter, Leora (Lee) Blythe, of Hyndman; two sisters-in-law, Betty Clapper and Genevieve Sue Luman; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Clapper is the last surviving member of the Hyndman High School class of 1929. He was a veteran of the USMC stationed on Guam, and he fought on Okinawa. Mr. Clapper retired from Buffalo Mills Post Office where he was a rural mail carrier for many years. He was also a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church, Madley, were he taught adult Sunday school for many years. He was also a member of the Chestnut Tree Association.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at Christ Lutheran Church on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Thomas Ekstrand officiating.

Burial will follow at Lybarger Cemetery, where the Fort Bedford Honor Guard will confer military honors.
