Robertson signs letter of intent to attend Point Park University

FROSTBURG — Former Mountain Ridge softball pitcher Kelsey Robertson signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career for the next four years for the Point Park University Pioneers of the American Mideast conference (AMC). Point Park is located in downtown Pittsburgh and enrolls over 3,000 students.

At Mountain Ridge High School, Robertson compiled the following numbers: 48-15 for a .762 winning percentage. She struck out 472 batters in 390 innings. She finished with a 1.29 career earned-run average and had 19 shutouts. On April 28, Robertson pitched a perfect game against Bishop Walsh.

Robertson was a second-team Times-News All-Area selection as a freshman, a first-team selection as a sophomore, and a second-team selection as a junior.

Robertson also played three years of volleyball and was a Minds in Motion recipient for four years and is graduating with a 3.43 grade-point average. She ranks in the top 25 percent of her class.

Most recently, at the softball awards banquet Robertson was selected as the Miners’ Most Valuable Player.

“I thank God for giving me the talent to pitch,” Robertson said, “as well as all of my teammates because without them behind me this would not have been possible. All of my coaches supported me and encouraged me to be the best, and, finally, I thank my family for being my biggest fans and always being there when times got tough.”

Said Mountain Ridge head coach Martha Mauzy, “It has been a privilege having Kelsey for the past four years. It has been great watching her mature and develop into one of the outstanding pitchers from our area.

“Kelsey’s willingness to work on her pitching skills is endless and I am sure that she is going to experience success next year. She is a hard working dedicated player, and Point Park is getting a young lady ready to face the challenges of pitching on the college level.”

Point Park coach Michelle Coultas said, “Kelsey is a great addition to this university and softball program. Her experience on the mound with her hard work will immediately impact this team.

“As a freshman, I expect her to be one of our top pitchers. It can be difficult to make the transition from high school to college, but with Kelsey I am confident she will excel at this level. Not only is she a good pitcher but also she is a wonderful young woman who carries herself well. I am proud that she will be representing Point Park University as a student-athlete.”
