Johnny Holliday book signing today

LaVALE - Johnny Holliday, the voice of the University of Maryland Terrapins, will now be signing copies of his latest book Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Walden Book Store at the Country Club Mall.

"Hoop Tales: Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball," is written by Johnny Holliday with Stephen Moore, with a foreword by John Feinstein. In the book, Holliday looks back at some of the great moments in Maryland basketball history and some of the personalities he's seen in his 28 years as the voice of the Terps.

Holliday's previous book was "Johnny Holliday: From Rock to Jock," also written with Moore.

MASN announces Nats, O's announcers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network has announced its television lineup and announcers for the broadcasts of Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles games for the 2007 baseball season.

April 1 is the target date for Cumberland cable provider Atlantic Broadband to begin airing MASN.

For Orioles telecasts, ESPN veteran Gary Thorne will cover play-by-play for the Orioles games on MASN, sharing time with returning announcer Jim Hunter. Thorne joins a seasoned squad of Orioles broadcasters that includes Hunter, Hall of Famer Jim Palmer, Buck Martinez and 1983 World Series MVP Rick Dempsey.

Amber Theoharis will be the Orioles sideline reporter.

Hosting the new O's Xtra pre-game and post-game shows will be Jim Hunter and Rick Dempsey, while veteran Baltimore sportscaster Tom Davis will share hosting duties with Hunter.

For Nationals telecasts, Bob Carpenter is back to cover play-by-play duties, while Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton becomes the new Nationals color analyst.

Debbi Taylor will become the Nationals new sideline reporter.

Hosting the new Nats Xtra pre-game and post-game shows will be the 27-year broadcast veteran and "Voice of the Maryland Terrapins," Johnny Holliday. He will be joined in the studio by 1986 World Series MVP Ray Knight.

Girls softball sign-ups today

LAVALE - The Allegany County Little League Inc., (formerly Cumberland/LaVale League), will hold registration today from 6-8 p.m., at the Cresaptown Elementary School.

Any girl age 6-16 that lives in Allegany County can register to play. All girls that played in Cumberland, LaVale or Cresaptown need to register at this time. Please bring a copy of birth certificate (for players), and a copy of drivers license (for parents who want to volunteer). A $50 registration fee will be collected at this time.

Midland Little League sign-ups Saturday, Monday

MIDLAND - Midland Little League baseball signups will be held Saturday, from 10 a.m. until noon, and on Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Midland Town Hall.

Tri-State umpires to meet Tuesday

CUMBERLAND - The Tri-State Umpires Association will hold its rules clinic for baseball and for softball on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m., at Fort Hill High School in room 156.

Attendance is mandatory for umpires and all coaches are welcome to attend.
