READING, Pa. — Frostburg State surrendered six goals in the opening quarter of play and never recovered in a 15-10 men’s lacrosse loss to Albright in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Region Championship game on Sunday.
Top-seeded Albright (15-4), the tournament host, led 4-0 after 5:30 and 6-1 after the first quarter on its way to the title.
The early deficit proved too much for the second-seeded Bobcats (13-7). They were able to pull within three, 10-7 and 11-8, in the third quarter, but were unable to get any closer.
Ryan Serio’s third goal got FSU to within three the final time, at 11-8, but Albright’s Ryan Turner scored three straight goals to seal it.
Turner led the Lions with four goals and Justin Brown and Darian Meador had two. Tournament MVP T.J. Holston had one goal and two assists.
Serio had four goals, Spencer Barnett two goals and Spenser Love and Nick Stailey a goal and an assist for the Bobcats, who were outshot 60-31.
FSU’s Tyler Haines came up big in the cage, stopping 21 shots. Billy Lark won all 18 faceoffs (18 of 26) and picked up a game-high seven ground balls.
