BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Meghan Anderson pitched a six-hitter and drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning as Keyser won its first West Virginia Class AA, Region 2, Section 1 softball championship with a 3-1 victory over Berkeley Springs on Saturday.

Keyser (12-11) will host a region semifinal game on Thursday at 6 p.m. with the opponent to be determined.

With Keyser trailing 1-0, Kelsey Bacon opened the Golden Tornado sixth with a bunt single and stole second. Brooke Mangold sent her home with a double, stole third and scored the go-ahead run on Anderson’s sacrifice fly.

Keyser added an insurance run in the seventh. Katelyn Rae singled, stole second and third and scored on a catcher’s throwing error.

Taylor Haggerty had a double and a single for the Golden Tornado.

Alexis Stotler had an RBI double and Chelsea Hessler two singles for Berkeley Springs.

Anderson had four strikeouts and no walks in getting the win.

Clear Spring 5

Northern 1

GRANTSVILLE — The fourth inning housed all of Saturday’s offense between fifth-seeded Northern and 12th-seed Clear Spring as the Blazeres eliminated the Huskies from the Class 1A West Region playoffs.

Both pitchers threw well with D. McDonough recording seven strikeouts while allowing three hits and one run. Northern’s Taryn Brenneman had six strikeouts and allowed four hits in the loss.

A. Forest and H. Lozear hit doubles for Clear Spring. Kaitlynn Fratz, Miranda Beasom and Kara Savage had singles to account for Northern’s hits.

Northern wraps up its season at 3-10. The Blazers play today at Poolesville.





Jefferson 10

Hampshire 0

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — A day after advancing in the playoffs with a 10-0 win, Hampshire found itself on the other side of the equation as the Trojans were eliminated from the Class AAA, Region 2, Section 1 tournament.

Biggs tossed a six-inning one-hitter with three strikeouts. Dana Veach’s single was the only hit for Hampshire, which finished the year 9-14.



No. 4 East Hardy 3

Moorefield 0

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Molly Look hurled a two-hit shutout as East Hardy blanked Moorefield to win the Class A, Region 2, Section 4 championship.

Look, who took a no-hitter into the sixth, faced only three batters over the minimum. She had one walk and seven strikeouts.

Ashley Dove tripled and scored on Lindsey Bayse’s sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Lauren Orndorf reached on an error and scored on a double by Carrie Vance in the second to give the Cougars a quick 2-0 lead.

Raven Mongold singled and scored on a single by Look for the final run, in the fifth.

Haley Arose broke up the no-hitter with a sixth-inning single for Moorefield. Kayla Barb also singled for the Yellow Jackets (9-15). Madeline Elmore allowed only five hits and two earned runs but absorbed the loss.

East Hardy (16-3) will play at Pendleton County in a region semifinal on Thursday.

East Hardy beat Moorefield 11-1 in their first sectional meeting on Friday.

Basye had seven strikeouts, walked three, allowed no earned runs and drove in two runs at the plate for the Cougars.

Basye went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Look was 2-for-3 with a double and a single, and Orndorf hit an RBI double.

Samantha Markwood doubled for the Yellow Jackets.
