CUMBERLAND — Keyser built a 12-0 lead over Personal Best/Hartley’s Pizza, but the Patriots tied the score in the third period and would win it in overtime when Alex Barnes scored on a six-yard run to make it a 20-12 victory this past weekend during the Cumberland Area Youth Football League openers.

Dustin Lucas collected a 45-yard touchdown in the first quarter to put the score at 6-0 Steelers, and a Travis Smith two-yard plunge made it 12-0 in the second quarter. Both Lucas and Smith would finish with 61 rushing yards, with Lucas gaining it on six carries and Smith on 17.

Amonte Turner would add another 59 yards on the ground.

The defending CAYFL champion Patriots got going in the third quarter when Ryan Smith picked up 10 of his 100 yards on his team’s first touchdown. Smith would follow that up with a 40-yard score that tied the game at 12-12.

Barnes, who finished with 55 yards rushing on nine carrie, got the winning touchdown in overtime as well as collecting seven tackles. Smith led the team with 11, while Malik Redman had eight and Ryan Shives added seven. Matt Green recovered a fumble.

Keyser defensive standouts were Cody Rodeheaver and Ryan Liller.

Personal Best/Hartley’s will play at Northern on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Steelers have a bye.

Miners     22

Northern Steelers    7

LONACONING — The Miners scored 22 unanswered points to collect a 15-point win over the Northern Steelers this past weekend at Westmar.

Trevon Jones got a 60-yard pass to give Northern the first points of the game, and the Steelers would hold the lead even after the Miners’ Ty Brooks scored on a two-yard in the second quarter and the extra point kick was missed.

The Miners would take the lead in the fourth quarter when Brooks scored on an eight-yard run and Zach Hager booted the point after to make it 14-7. The Miners used a Rashawn Johnson 39-yard touchdown run, and Hager’s extra point for insurance.

The Division II game saw Austin Evans score two touchdowns to lead Northern to a 30-12 win. Lucas Lowery scored twice for the Miners.

The Miners will play Braddock at Allegany on Sunday, and the Steelers will host the Patriots, also on Sunday.

Warriors    20

Oakland Rams    14

OAKLAND — Blake Milburn rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown, and Raen Smith added two more scores during a Knippenburg Insurance Warriors win over the hosting Oakland Rams at Southern High School.

The Warriors opened a 14-0 lead on a nine-yard run by Smith in the the first quarter and a one-yard score from Milburn.

The Rams would score before halftime when Jeffery Eddington found Travis Newton for a 47-yard touchdown. Oakland tied the score on the only points of the third quarter when Eddington ran 79 yards.

Smith scored the deciding touchdown in the third quarter from three yards out.

Dominic DeStefano had a total of six tackles and Chris Stosick added four. Dallas Hoover had a fumble recovery.

Darion King-Ottaviani scored on 76-yard run, and Johnny Kincaid added a 26-yard touchdown as the Warriors won the Division II contest 13-0.
