OAKLAND — Laina Holler, Courtney Roth and Kayla Harris combined for 38 points, leading Southern past Frankfort 57-46 on Wednesday night in the Rams’ season opener.
Holler and Harris fell just shy of double-double efforts, as both players grabbed eight rebounds. Holler had a team-high 15 points on five field goals and 5 of 9 shooting from the free-throw line. Harris added 10 points on four buckets and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe.
Roth finished with 13 points, making four field goals, two of which were three’s, and 3 of 4 from the foul line.
Abby Beeman had a game-high 21 points for the Falcons (1-2), making nine shots from the floor, one of which was from three-point land, and 3 of 8 free-throw attempts. Claire Howell added 10 points.
Southern led by three, 10-7, at the end of the first quarter before pulling away at the end of the second, 27-11, and third, 41-25, periods.
The Rams won the jayvee game, 40-29, behind Josilyn Evans’ 12 points and Jordyn Warnick’s 10. Rachel Noah led Frankfort with 10 points.
Southern hosts East Hardy on Monday at 7:30 p.m., while the Falcons play North Marion on Saturday, 2 p.m., at home.
