Northern golfers win Garrett County title
MCHENRY — Austin Doerr led the field with a 43 as Northern defeated Southern for the Garrett County championship Thursday at the Wisp Resort.
The Huskies won with a team score of 188. Southern had 223.
Cammen Feller shot a 47 and Jeff Bittinger and Dakota Fazenbaker had 49s for Northern. Evan Friend led Southern with a 48, and Billy Gindlesberger shot a 50.
It was the final team match of the season for both teams. Northern’s Doerr, who won the region championship earlier this week in Hagerstown, will compete in the state tournament Oct. 26-27 at the University of Maryland.
Mike Demoss gets ace at Rocky Gap
ROCKY GAP — Mike Demoss, of Pittsburgh, hit a hole-in-one on the 128-yard No. 12 Sunday, Sept. 11 at Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort. Demoss used a pitching wedge and was playing a foursome with Vince Piccolino, Jerry Fazio and John Galmoff as part of the Highlands Golf League.
Mill Creek seniors play scramble
BURLINGTON, W.Va. — Joe Hill, Charles DeVault, Jerry Winkler and Don Anderson carded a 60 to finish first in the Mill Creek seniors tournament. Roger Fazenbaker, Tom Valentine, Bob Dorsey and Tom Coleman finished second at 61 while Glen Miller, Buzz Shrout, Gene Wilt and Bill Metz finished third at 62. Pin winners were Paul Kelly (No. 3), Dorsey (4) and DeVault (8).
Winnfield golf plays Wednesday scramble
GRANTSVILLE — Billy Turner, Tim Galica, Kelby Kamp and Tink Wilt shot a 31 for the low score during Wednesday’s men’s scramble at Winnfield Golf.
Ed McAteer was the pin winner on No. 3, Tyler Kamp had the longest drive on No. 6.
Polish Pines MGA play continues
KEYSER, W.Va. — Dan Sears, Merle Ray and Ed Mickey won a cardoff with a 61 for first place in the Polish Pines MGA event on Thursday.
Second place went to Frank Shepherd, Ken Griffith and Fred Vess. Pin winners were Joe Wiley (No. 2), Shepherd (4), Griffith (6) and Mike Ryan (8).
Fore Sisters MGA plays 9-hole scramble
RAWLINGS — The Fore Sisters MGA played a 9-hole scramble on Thursday with Grant Custer, Dale Jones, Ron Carr and Jake Michaels finishing first at net 29, and Bob Davis, Gary Bradfield, Gerald Gordon and Larry Lohmeier finishing second in a cardoff at net 31. Closest to the pins were Gordon (No. 4), Skip Sweene (7) and Davis (9).
