BW holds on, beats Keyser

KEYSER, W.Va. — Bishop Walsh got off to a slow start in the first game without Bob Boyle, but the Spartans hunkered down in the fourth to pull away from host Keyser and grab a 39-32 win Thursday evening.

The Spartans were in front most of the night, but could never shake free of the Golden Tornado. Bishop Walsh led 8-4 after one quarter, 12-8 at halftime and 18-17 after three. It outscored Keyser 21-15 in the final stanza to get the win.

Kier Turner had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Billy Taylor, Max Paver and Dylan Wilson all added eight points. Paver had a team-high 12 rebounds and Darius Berry had nine more.

After shooting 7 for 22 at the foul line in the first three quarters, Bishop Walsh finished up on an 8 of 12 run in the fourth.

Keyser’s Wesley Harper scored 14 points and Ryan Streets had eight in the head coaching debut of John Haines Jr.

The Tornado took the jayvee game 44-19 on 13 points from Amonte Turner. Joseph DeJoice had nine points for Bishop Walsh.

The Spartans (2-3) are off until a December 20 meeting at Fort Hill. Keyser (0-1) hosts Mountain Ridge on Tuesday.
