MR rallies, beats Allegany, 44-34

— FROSTBURG — Facing a five-point deficit after the first quarter, Mountain Ridge relied on Anna Broadwater and Sarah Raines for a big second quarter that propelled the Miners to a 44-34 win over the visiting Campers in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action.

Raines scored six points in the second quarter on her way to a game-high 23 points, and Broadwater had five of her 13 points in the second quater as the Miners went from an 11-6 deficit to a 21-18 lead. They continued to pull away in the second half.

Raines added six rebounds, six steals and four assists to her 23 points.

Allegany’s Micah Wormack scored a team-high 14 points and added seven blocks and two assists. Rachel Wormack came up with 11 points for the Campers.

Mountain Ridge also won the jayvee game, 51-17, behind 13 points from Kayla Stickley. Molly Winners added nine points and Jona Harris scored eight.

Allegany got eight points from Kaylee Buckbee and six from Margaret Neidhardt.

Mountain Ridge (2-0) plays Boonsboro in a make up on Saturday. Allegany (1-1) is at Bishop Walsh on Monday.

Southern 73, Frankfort 34

OAKLAND — Sophomore Lauren Francillon led four Rams in double figures and Southern pulled away from Frankfort over the final three quarters to beat the Falcons and collect its first win of the season.

Francillon finished with 23 points on the back of eight field goals and a flawless 7 for 7 night at the foul line. Alicia Roth added 15 points, freshman Kamrin Weimer scored 13 and Kambrie Bosley finished with 11. Francillon showed her presence on the glass as well, grabbing 14 rebounds.

The score was tied throughout the opening quarter with the score sitting tied at nine entering the second quarter. The Rams outscored the Falcons 23-7 during the second quarter and 22-7 in the third to take a commanding lead.

Frankfort got 11 points from Katie Beeman and nine from Cyrstal Yaider.

Nikki Pysell and Ashley Green had 10 points apiece in Southern’s 41-24 junior varsity win. Taylor Stein had eight for Frankfort.

The Rams (1-1) are at home on Tuesday when they host Morgantown. Frankfort returns to Garrett County to play Northern on Monday.

Northern    32   Bishop Walsh    26

CUMBERLAND — Northern outscored Bishop Walsh 15-6 in the fourth quarter to rally past the Spartans and collect its first win Thursday night in AMAC girls basketball.

Rhiannon Dodge scored 11 points with three three-pointers and was the only player to score at least 10 points while helping Northern get past a cold start. Ashley Murphy added eight points for the Huskies.

Northern started the night down 8-6 at the end of one quarter and looked at a 14-9 deficit at halftime. The Huskies trailed 20-17 before taking the fourth quarter to come from behind and grab the win.

Breana Uhl had seven rebounds and Abagail Sensabaugh had six blocks to pace the Spartans.

The jayvee game went to Northern, 40-18. Erin Osselburn and Kristin Bennett each had 10 in the win and Annie Simpson scored nine in the loss.

Northern (1-2) plays Frankfort at home, and the Spartans (1-2) will host Fort Hill on Monday.
