CUMBERLAND — Ra’Shanna Middleton had a match-high 16 service points and Sarah Lowery led all hitters with 12 kills to lead Fort Hill to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 win over Mountain Ridge in their Class 1A West Region volleyball semifinals Wednesday evening at Fort Hill.
The win sends Fort Hill (13-3) to the region championship game, against a familiar foe in Smithsburg (14-3), which beat Boonsboro 25-18, 25-11, 25-23 in last night’s other semifinal. Fort Hill will play Smithsburg for the fourth straight year in the region final, which will be Friday at Smithsburg at 6 p.m. The Leopards won the previous three finals against the Sentinels.
Fort Hill’s win over Mountain Ridge was its third of the year, and all three were tight matches, with both regular season matches going five games. The Miners rallied in the third game last night to tie it 22-22, and Fort Hill regrouped and won three of the final four points to close out the match.
Middleton finished with 16 points, 13 digs and four kills, and Lowery had 12 kills and two blocks for Fort Hill. Haley Wolfe had 27 assists, seven digs and seven points, Alyssia Whitacre 17 digs and six points, Sierra Minnick 32 digs and Rachel Alderton six kills, eight digs and two blocks.
Allie Hawkins led Mountain Ridge (12-4) with 25 assists, 15 digs, six kills and 11 service points. Shae Winner added eight kills, eight points and nine digs, and Sarah Robinson had seven kills, seven points and five digs.
