OWINGS MILLS — Mary Ann Moore fired a three-hitter and Taylor Vandegrift and Bailey Ellsworth had a pair of hits to lift Frostburg State to a 5-1 win over Stevenson in the first game of their college softball doubleheader Tuesday at Stevenson.
The Mustangs earned a split by taking the second game 3-1.
In the opener, Moore, who flirted with a perfect game Sunday against Washington & Jefferson, gave up only three hits and one unearned run in a complete game win that raised her record to 14-3. She struck out four.
Vandegrift and Ellsworth, the No. 1 and 2 hitters in the order, both went 2 for 4 with two singles. Shari Beavers scored on an infield error and Lauren Capece had an RBI single to give the Bobcats (25-8) a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Beavers had an RBI single in the third, and Caitlin Lovend had an RBI single in the seventh.
In the second game, Stevenson (14-16) got all three of its runs on a second-inning home run by Jessica Morelli.
Vandegrift had an RBI double for Frostburg and finished the day with three hits, two runs and an RBI. Nicole Bradford took the loss, allowing nine hits and three runs.
Frostburg plays a doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday.
