FSU bumped out of CAC, 11-6

FROSTBURG — Billy Kelly scored four goals and Mary Washington, a week after losing to Frostburg State, ousted the Bobcats from the Capital Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse tournament with an 11-6 win Wednesday night.

Last week, the Bobcats (11-6) raced to an early lead and beat the Eagles (9-6) 13-11 to claim the No. 4 seed and a first-round home match. In the tournament game, it was Mary Washington which got off to a 4-1 lead, and when FSU got to within one, the Eagles sealed their victory with four goals in the fourth quarter.

Devin Colegrove and Spenser Love had a goal and an assist in the fourth quarter to help the Bobcats get to within 7-6 before the Eagles regained the momentum by scoring four goals on seven shots.

Mary Washington outshot Frostburg 35-9 in the first half and led 6-3. The Eagles ended up with a 51-37 edge in shots. FSU goalie Tyler Haines made 20 saves, including nine in the second quarter. Billy Lark won 15 of 17 faceoffs and Colegrove finished with a team best two goals and one assist.

Frostburg State awaits a possible bid to the ECAC Tournament, which begins May 8.
