Moorefield tears up Tucker, 13-2

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Third-ranked Moorefield jumped all over Tucker County with a 10-run first inning and cruised to a five-inning 13-2 win on Senior Night.

Jared Kite tripled, doubled, scored two runs and knocked in two more for the Yellow Jackets (16-5). Adam Snyder hit a triple and single, scored twice and drove in one run, while Mikey Pultz added a double and three RBIs.

Dashawn Brown got the win and struck out three over the first four innings.

Moorefield is at East Hardy on Friday at 7 p.m.

East Hardy 10, Tygarts Valley 0

MILL CREEK, W.Va. — Tyler Mongold rang up seven hitters and gave up only three hits while driving in two of his own to power fifth-ranked East Hardy to a five-inning win over Tygarts Valley Wednesday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Mongold was 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs as the Cougars scored four runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead, then scored the other five over the fourth and fifth to finish off the Bulldogs. Shawn Skovron went 3-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs, and Justin Basye went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Wyatt Basye finished with two singles.

Tygarts Valley (12-9) was able to manage three singles off of Mongold.

The Cougars (13-7, 10-2 PVC) play today, 4:30 p.m., at Union.

Pendleton Co. 21, Webster Co. 8

FRANKLIN, W. Va. — Pendleton County scored 10 runs in its first at bat and continued to pull away from Webster County and win by 13 runs, 21-8, in a game shortened to five innings.

Callum McGrath finished with three hits and three runs batted in, while Luke Yokam hit a triple, a double and had three runs batted in. Dan Heavner added a double, single and had one RBI.

Webster’s Evan Wayne led his team with a triple and a double.

McGratch pitched all five innings as well, collecting eight strikeouts along the way.

The Wildcats (14-7) travel to the Hall of Fame Field at Cooperstown (N.Y.) to play against Jefferson on Friday and Musselman on Saturday.

Petersburg 8, Moorefield 4

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Trevor Harman hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2 and also had two more hits to knock in four runs as fourth-ranked Petersburg scored four in the fifth to defeat third-ranked Moorefield on Tuesday at Petersburg.

Alex See had two singles and an RBI for the Vikings, Brett Reel had two singles and Ryan Colaw doubled home two runs.

For Moorefield, Jared Kite had three singles. Xavier Brown had a single and a double, while Lance Taylor singled in two runs.

Petersburg (15-4) will play today at Keyser.

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.
