Fort Cumberland takes two of three in tournament

CUMBERLAND — FREDERICK — The Fort Cumberland Junior American Legion baseball team opened its season in the Sonny Blank Tournament and went 2-1, beating Berkeley County and Damascus before falling to Cecil County, 8-2, in a quarterfinal game on Sunday at McCurdy Field.

On Sunday, Post 13 was held to four hits by Cecil County. Blake Milburn and Brandon Reed had two singles and scored the Fort Cumberland runs.

On Saturday, the locals began the day by beating Damascus 3-1, then defeated Berkeley County 7-2.

In the win over Damascus, Adam DuVall fired a four-hitter and struck out nine in a complete-game win. Milburn and Dylan Wilson hit two singles and Tanner Brode smacked an RBI double to lead the offense.

Brandon Reed tossed a two-hitter, struck out eight and walked four in a complete-game victory over Berkeley County. Milburn had two more singles and scored two runs to lead the attack.

Fort Cumberland (2-1) will play a doubleheader at Berkeley County on Saturday at 4 p.m.
