Gaus, Michaels spark Fort Hill to win

— CUMBERLAND — Broadfording mounted a valiant fourth-quarter rally, but Dalton Gaus and Tyler Michaels proved too much as Fort Hill held on for a 74-66 win Monday night in high school boys basketball.

Gaus, a 6-5 senior, scored a team-high 24 points, while Michaels, a 6-4 senior, added 22. Gaus paired a 9 of 10 performance from the foul line with seven field goals, and Michaels made eight field goals and 4 of 6 attempts at the line. Michaels made two three-pointers, and Gaus one.

K’Shaun Powell and Kris Jackson had nine points. David Proietti led the team with 12 rebounds.

The Sentinels played their way to a 20-9 lead in the first quarter and led 31-22 at halftime. The lead grew to 19 points (57-38) by the end of the third before Broadfording outscored the Sentinels 28-17 to narrow the margin in the fourth.

Monni Anderson led the charge by Broadfording and finished with a game-high 29 points. Isaiah Daniel added 12 points.

Brayden Brown had 23 points and Jordan Warner scored 12 in Fort Hill’s 77-50 win in the jayvee game. DeAndre Gonzalez scored 20 points for Broadfording.

The 2-0 Sentinels host Southern in a tripleheader on Wednesday with the freshman game beginning at 4:15.

MT. STORM, W.Va. — Austin Orndorff scored 18 points and led four scorers double-figure as Turkeyfoot overcame a big game by Travis Murphy to beat Union.

Nathan Enos had 14 points, Lake Murray 13 and Kyle McClintock 11 for Turkeyfoot (2-2), which rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second quarter.

Murphy hit eight field goals and 9 of 12 free throws for a game-high 26 points for Union (1-1). He also hauled in 17 rebounds and had four steals and three assists before fouling out.

The Tigers struggled from the free throw line in the second quarter which kept them from extending the 12-point lead. Turkeyfoot cut it to four points, 32-28, at halftime and trailed by two, 47-45, entering the fourth quarter.

Turkeyfoot won the jayvee game 53-44. Jimmy Kemp had 11 points for Turkeyfoot and Clayton Burdock 13 for Union.

The Tigers play at Harman on Wednesday at 7:30.
