Cats open with sweep

Stay at Myrtle Beach for 9 a.m. twinbill

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Keyser graduate Megan Anderson allowed four hits in the opener and Sydney Ouzts and Kendra Hardesty combined to allow two hits as Potomac State began its season by sweeping a doubleheader against Jamestown (N.Y.) at  Myrtle Beach.

PSC won the first game 10-2 as Anderson fanned seven batters while yielding a single run in each the fifth and sixth innings. She didn’t walk or hit a batter.

The Catamounts backed her up with eight hits, and scored two runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to account for their 10 runs. Savannah Hose, a standout at Frankfort, had three runs batted in on a double and a single. Hampshire’s Karisa Saville finished with a pair of singles.

The Cats completed the sweep by shutting out the Jaguars 11-0 in the second outing.

Ouzts and Hardesty, a graduate of Southern, combined for only three strikeouts, but gave up just two hits and didn’t walk anyone.

Hose and Saville provided two more hits each, with Saville collecting two runs batted in as well. Taylor Rice, another Frankfort standout, finished with a double and two singles for three of her teams’ 10 hits.

The Cats scored at least once in every inning, getting two runs in the first, one each in the second and third, two more in the fourth and finishing by scoring five times in the top of the fifth inning.

Potomac State was scheduled to open the season on March 7, but has had a total of eight games rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The Catamounts will play the Jaguars again today in another doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m.
