Mountain Ridge Invitational moved to Greenway

CUMBERLAND — Today’s Mountain Ridge Track and Field Invitational has been moved from Mountain Ridge Stadium to Greenway Avenue Stadium.

The meet, involving the teams from Bishop Walsh, Fort Hill, Frankfort, Keyser, Mountain Ridge, Northern and Southern, begins at 5 p.m. Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and the coaches meeting will be 4 p.m.

 

Potomac State baseball at Shenandoah today

WINCHESTER, Va. — Potomac State College's scheduled game with Rappahannock Community College on Wednesday was postponed.

In its place, the Catamounts will play a doubleheader today at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. The first game is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.

Potomac State will return home to Golden Park on Friday for a pair of games with Garrett College starting at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, PSC will travel to Wye Mills for a Division 1 Region XX single game with Chesapeake College at 2 p.m.

 

All-Area basketball nominations deadline is Sunday

CUMBERLAND — The deadline for coaches to nominate players for the All-Area boys and girls basketball teams is Sunday.

Head coaches are requested to nominate players from their teams and provide season statistics for each nominee.

Boys basketball nominations should be emailed to mmathews@times-news.com. Girls basketball nominations should be emailed to cappel@times-news.com.

Nominations may also be faxed to 301-722-5270 or can be made by calling the sports department at 301-722-4600 between 6 and 9 p.m.

 

FSU’s Smith earns weekly track honor

YORK, Pa. — Frostburg State University track and field sophomore Christina Smith was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Smith finished fourth in the javelin (28.06 meters) and fifth in the hammer throw (28.50 meters) at the Juniata Invitational on Saturday.

Frostburg State participates in the Susquehanna Meet on Saturday.



Bobcats’ Caitlin Lovend ECAC Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. — Frostburg State junior standout Cailtin Lovend has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.

Lovend, the CAC Player of the Week and the FSU Female Athlete of the Week, helped the Bobcats to a 7-0 record during last week’s spring break trip to Myrtle Beach. She exploded for a .640 batting average (16-for-25) with five home runs and a triple.

Lovend also drove in 16 RBIs, scored 12 runs, had at least one hit in all seven contests and posted a .690 on-base percentage.

Through 15 games, Lovend is hitting .449 (22-for49) with 21 RBIs, 18 runs scored and five home runs.

Frostburg State visits Dickinson today for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
