FROSTBURG — Despite outscoring Saint Vincent 5-2 to open up the second half, the Bearcats slid past Frostburg State for a 15-13 victory on a snowy Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bearcats were led by Alyssa Lang who had a game-high six goals. Michelle Mitchell earned the win with six saves.
Six Bobcats got on the scoreboard, led by senior Katelyn Kesecker who ended with four goals, an assist and two ground balls. Taylor Cassatt, Megan White, Chelsea Feeney and Emily Walker all donated two goals apiece.
Senior Naomi Swann suffered her fourth loss of the year while making seven saves.
The Bobcats (3-4) and Saint Vincent (5-2) battled to gain control in the opening minutes with the Bearcats finding the first goal while FSU answered back with two scores by Cassatt and White.
Saint Vincent tied it back up at 2-2 before an unassisted goal by Cassatt at 22:09 left in the first half retook the lead for the Bobcats.
Saint Vincent regained the momentum, netting six straight goals to make it 8-3 five minutes before halftime.
FSU scored three goals to Saint Vincent’s one to end the half at 9-5.
The Bobcats struck first to open the second half as Kesecker linked up with Feeney to bring the game within three, 9-6, at 24:42.
St. Vincent answered with two more goals and the 11-6 lead.
The Bobcats put together a 4-0 run on three goals by Kesecker and one by Walker who was assisted by Rachel Dwyer to pull within one, 11-10, at 10:33.
FSU couldn’t snatch the lead, however, as the Bearcats scored four straight goals to retake a five-goal lead. The Bobcats ran out of time scoring the last three goals.
The Bobcats host non-conference opponent Southern Virginia for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
