Rabid rally gives BW 5-3 win

CUMBERLAND — Haven Mackie accounted for three goals and two assists, all in the second half, as Bishop Walsh came back for a 3-0 halftime deficit to win 5-0 over Hyndman at Bishop Walsh Friday.

Micah Stair scored two unassisted goals at 17:51 and 10:52. Elijah Stair added the third goal of the first half for Hyndman on assist from Josh Cosgrove with 2:42 left.

Mackie assisted Will Giles at 31:08 in the second half to make it 3-1. He followed that with three goals in 21 minutes, one assisted by Timmy Wolodkin to give the Spartans the lead. Mackie assisted Corbin McGann with 5:10 remaining for a final score of 5-3.

Austin Cotts stopped five shots on 11 Hyndman targets.

The Hornets’ Jake Bennett halted five on 13 Spartan attempts.

Bishop Walsh coach Joe Rowan commented, “The kids really responded well after the half. The execution that wasn’t there in the first half, was there in the second half. I’m very proud of our young team, I thought we grew up a lot today.”

It marked the first time in 31 years that the Spartans trailed 3-0 or worse at halftime and rallied to win.

Bishop Walsh (3-0) hosts Hampshire Wednesday at 4 p.m.
