Southern captures AMAC title

CUMBERLAND — Southern shot a 384 to capture the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference tournament title at the Cumberland Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

The Rams won the 18-hole event by eight strokes over their Garrett County rival Northern and its 392 total. Host Bishop Walsh took third at 396 followed by Keyser’s 399, Allegany’s 407, Fort Hill’s 415, Mountain Ridge’s 422 and Frankfort’s 475.

Keyser’s Matt Landes shot an 82 and was the tournament’s low medalist after a card-off with Fort Hill’s Josh Lutton who also score 82. Landes and Lutton as well as Mountain Ridge’s Jacob Timney (83), Bishop Walsh’s Brennan McMullen (84), the Rams’ Bryce Friend (87), Northern’s Jeff Bittner (88), the Spartans’ Lucas McGill (91) and Fort Hill’s Pete Jackowski (92) were named to the All AMAC Team.

All schools will be in action today. Allegany, Fort Hill, Southern and Northern meet at The Wisp in McHenry while Keyser will host Bishop Walsh, Frankfort, Moorefield and Mountain Ridge at Polish Pines Golf Course. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
