PSC improves to 2-0

— GREEN SPRING — Two second half goals within nine minutes of one another propelled Potomac State to 3-2 victory over Stevenson University’s junior varsity in college men’s soccer action Monday afternoon.

The victory improves the Catamounts to 2-0.

Chris Ranker scored on a corner kick by Derek Swanson at the 40:07 mark of the second half to break a 1-1 tie. AT 31:12, Brandon Lee scored unassisted putting the Catamounts up 3-1.

Stevenson scored first on an unassisted goal by Todd Sloane at 19:25 of the first half. Potomac State answered about four minutes later when Northern graduate Jared Fike scored off of Caleb Goodin’s assist at 15:04.

Stevenson closed the scoring on Geo Gilke’s unassisted goal with 11:30 to play in the game.

The Catamounts outshot Stevenson 9-7 and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Both Connor Eberly, a former Mountain Ridge standout playing goalie for Potomac State, and Stevenson’s Chiz Mellon made four saves.

Potomac State visits Allegany College of Maryland on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. and then hosts Prince George’s Community College on Sunday at Keyser High School with a 1 p.m. start.

Frostburg State    0

WESTMINSTER — Jim Caulfield, Jesse Caples and Alec Weaver scored goals for McDaniel as the  Green Terror handed Frostburg State its first loss Saturday night.

McDaniel (4-0) outshot Frostburg (3-1) 14-8. Zach Nibbelink made three saves in getting the shutout while FSU’s Hassan Mostafa had four.

Frostburg State hosts Waynesburg tonight at 7 p.m.
