BUTLER, Pa. — Frank Holloway scored 23 points and DeAndre Davis had a double-double to lead Garrett in a 96-58 rout of Butler in college men’s basketball Monday night.
The Lakers (4-1) exploded for 56 points in the first half to put the game away early and hit 12 three-point goals on the night. They led 56-28 at halftime.
Holloway hit six field goals and was perfect in 10 trips to the foul line to lead all scorers. Davis, a 6-6 freshman from Fredericksburg, Va., had a big night in his first game as a starter with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while D.J. Ritchie and Yannick Zanfack had 13 points and three three-point goals apiece.
Chris Scarlett had five of Garrett’s 23 assists. Shannon McCready added eight points and four assists and Holloway had three steals.
Cody West led Butler with 22 points.
Garrett plays again Friday night at Frederick.
Frostburg State 64
LYNCHBURG, Va. — Zach Desgain hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left in regulation, and Randolph scored the final eight points of the overtime to defeat Frostburg State, 75-64, in college men’s basketball.
The Wildcats (2-0) outscored the Bobcats (0-2) 15-4 in the overtime to pull out the win. Desgain’s free throws at the end of regulation came after Nick Smoot had given FSU a 60-58 lead.
Five Randolph scorers reached double figures, with Mike Ehilegbu getting 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way. Desgain had a game-high 18 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Aaron Bellamy had a double-doubles for Frostburg with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Former Southern Garrett High standout Kurt Gangler had a team-high 15 points and three steals, while Torell Goodman had 11 rebounds.
Gangler scored all of his points in the second half, hitting 5 of 7 field goals and 4 of 5 free throws to rally the Bobcats, who trailed 44-32 early in the second half. His three-point goal late in the game put FSU up 58-56.
Frostburg State plays again at Mt. Aloysius on Thursday at 7 p.m.
