Team One gets by Legion in 8th, 3-2

OAKLAND  — Shawn Markwood scored on a bases load walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to jump Team One Auto Mall past Frostburg Legion 3-2 in a low-scoring affair Friday evening at Broadford Park.

Markwood singled as the second batter of the eighth and wound up on second before Frostburg turned a double play to bring them to the verge of escaping. A walk loaded the bases, moving Markwood to third, and another to Justin Peck drove in the game-winning run.

Hunter Nazelrod doubled in the sixth and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Corey Horner struck out six and allowed one hit in four innings as the starter before Markwood came on and got three more strikeouts from the fifth on. The two pitchers combined to scatter five singles.

Team One (8-4) plays a make-up game tonight in Salisbury. Frostburg hosts Ridgeley VFW Wednesday at 6 p.m.

POTOMAC PARK — Josh Cooper had two of the Kiwanis three hits and scored the only run of the game to defeat Riverside Sports at Memorial Field.

Cooper had two base hits and scored the run in the second inning on an error after his first base hit and stealing second.

Both pitching staffs held each team to only three hits. Tristan Gibbs and Connor Kelly were on the mound for Kiwanis. Carson Imes, with 12 strikeouts in five innings, and Brendan Dougherty threw for Riverside Sports.

Darian Ottaviani led Riverside with a double and a single.

Kiwanis (4-11) plays Lakeview Auto Parts on Tuesday at Northern High School. Riverside (5-7) is at Grantsville on Wednesday.

OAKLAND  — Brandon Mersing drove in four runs on two hits and combined with three other pitchers to hold Keyser Moose hitless during a five-inning shutout of Keyser Moose Saturday at Broadford Park.

The combination of Bryson Bittinger, Zach Tasker, Dakota Hinebaugh and Mersing allowed no hits in five innings and finished with eight total strikeouts. Bittinger had half of those.

Mersing collected his four RBIs on two singles, while Bittinger knocked in three runs with two doubles. Hinebaugh contributed two singles to Cork’s 10 hits. Broc Lohr got three RBIs on a double.

Cork’s (10-4-1) plays Monday night at Broadford Park against Greg’s Auto Body. Keyser hosts Twigg’s Plumbing & Heating at 6 o’clock on Wednesday.
