Frostburg State beats Wesley 51-42 for first CAC victory

FROSTBURG — Frostburg State won its first Capital Athletic Conference game of the season, subsequently ending a three-game skid with a 51-42 home win over Wesley Wednesday.

The Wolverines came in also looking for their first conference victory. They kept it close for most of the first half until the Bobcats went on a 12-0 run in the last seven minutes to go up 27-10 at the break.

Frostburg continued to control the action in the second half. The closest Wesley got was nine points late in the game. The Bobcats shot 66 percent from the free-throw line but hit enough down the stretch to hold on.

Jazmine Miller led Wesley with 14 points.

Ronje’ James led the Bobcats with 13 points. Brynn Arnone grabbed 10 rebounds to go with 12 points.

Frostburg State (5-9, 1-3 in CAC) hosts York Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Rockville 85, Allegany 33

CUMBERLAND — Looking to carry over the momentum from their first victory of the season the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans hung with top-rated Rockville early on before the Raptors pulled away for a win Wednesday night at Bob Kirk Arena.

Five Rockville players scored at least 10 points as the Knights outpaced the Trojans 70-19 over the final 32 minutes. Jameelah Thalley had a game-high 19 points and Jocelyn Martin added 14.

Madi Nightengale scored nine ponts to lead the Trojans, with Derica Souder settling in to score eight.

Following a 67-55 win over Anne Arundel on Monday, Allegany stayed with the Raptors, the No. 1 team in the Maryland JUCO Conference, for the first eight minutes of competition. The Trojans got as close as a point, 15-14, with 12 minutes to play in the first half before Rockville switched from a 1-2-2 zone to man-to-man and started growing the lead. The Raptors led 36-18 at halftime.

Allegany (1-12, 1-5 MDJUCO) plays at Harford on Saturday at noon.
