Post 13 outlasts Preston, 8-7

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — Fort Cumberland scored six runs in the second and then tacked on four more over the final two innings to overcome Preston Post 56 Saturday in a single game at Preston High School.

Preston was ahead 8-7 after getting a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Post 13  scored twice in the eighth and two more in the nineth.

Gary Legeer served up a two-run double in the eighth to give Fort Cumberland the lead, while Chris Fram jacked a solo home run in the fourth. Travis Miller finished with a double and a single and Carter Imes hit two singles.

Jordan Row recorded 13 strikeouts in six innings, but was left with a no-decision.

Bob Melvin hit a double and two singles and Jon McNeer added a double and a single.

Now 7-7, Post 13 plays Monday at Musselman High School against Berkeley County at 6 p.m.

CUMBERLAND  — Fort Cumberland drew three straight bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a doubleheader sweep of Frederick Saturday at Allegany College of Maryland.

Post 13 collected the first win 4-0 on Adam DuVall’s shutout, before scoring four times in their last at bats to win 10-9 and finish the afternoon.

Blake Milburn collected four balls to bring in Brandon Stott for the fourth and final run of the inning to rally Fort Cumberland in the early game. Frederick had just scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-6 lead.

Dylan Wilson supplied a double and a single, and Brady Hillegas had two singles for Post 13. Wade McGee struck out seven in six innings, but didn’t factor into the decision.

Caristy hit two doubles for Frederick.

DuVall had five strikeouts and allowed five hits to lead Post 13 to the win in the opener.

Brandon Reed had a double and a single, and John Ackerman two singles in the win.
