Lopez sparks Alco’s 42-0 win

RIDGWAY, Pa. — Darian Lopez scored Allegany’s first and last play of the first half and the Campers pulled away during the second half to improve to 3-2 with a 42-0 win over Ridgway (Pa.) Friday evening in Northern Pennsylvania.

Lopez scored on a 53-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and then on a 31-yard pass with 43 seconds left before halftime to give the Campers a 14-0 lead at the break. He finished with 93 rushing yards on six carries as part of a 325-yard rushing performance by Allegany.

After running into turnover problems early in most of their games, Lopez got the Campers rolling by running around the end of a pitch and outrunning the Elkers defenders for the first points with only 16 seconds off the clock.

Allegany didn’t completely escape their fumbling issues, putting the ball on the ground three times, but it recovered all three of them and threw no interceptions after committing 10 turnovers over the past two games.

In fact, it was Elkers turnovers that helped slow them in the first half and led to more points in the second. Allegany gave Ridgway good field position when the Campers failed to pick up the first on a fake punt. The Elkers moved down to the Allegany 35-yard line, but fumbled the ball back to the Campers on a screen pass in the middle of the field.

Allegany’s next big offensive play didn’t come until there was less than a minute left in the first half. Trenton Eirich threw to Wade McGee for 30 yards and gave the Campers a fresh set of downs at the Ridgway 26-yard line, but they would need just one more play as Eirich went to the air again and found Lopez at the five. Lopez fought off tacklers and punched his way into the end zone to give his team a 14-0 lead with 43 seconds left in the half.

It was another Ridgway turnover that the Campers took advantage of early in the third that set Allegany up 35 yards from the end zone. Facing a third-and-goal at the seven the Campers went to Dalton Golliday, who recovered the fumble, for the third touchdown.

The Allegany defense showed up from the beginning and never let the Elkers get much going. Ridgway gained 68 yards on 38 rushes and added another 20 through the air for a total of 88.

Kirk Robinette set the Campers up for their next touchdown with a bruising run down to the nine, and he finished the drive two plays later from a yard out to extend the lead to 28-0 after Nate Condor kicked his fourth extra point.

Though he didn’t find the end zone until later, Robinette was the leading rusher by gaining 125 yards on 14 carries, and helped the Campers get 13 first downs, 11 on the ground.

The final two touchdowns came courtesy of Chris Stosick after Allegany sat its starters.

Stosick scored the fifth touchdown with 5:53 remaining in the fourth quarter from nine yards out to push the score to 35-0, and then intercepted a pass on the Elkers next drive, taking it back for the sixth touchdown with 3:57 left.

Allegany recovered a fumble at the Ridgway 39 with 35 seconds left to close the game.

The Campers stay on the road for the third week in a row when they travel to play Calvert on Friday.
