Calvary youth basketball sign-ups slated

CRESAPTOWN — Calvary Baptist Church is holding player registration for the Youth Basketball League, which is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 18 who are in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Registration will take place in the Calvary Baptist Church gymnasium on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.; Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 6 to 7:15 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 3, from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Homecoming tickets to go on sale at FH

CUMBERLAND — Homecoming football tickets for Fort Hill season-ticket holders will be on sale in the main office at the school on Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 23-25, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

MR freshmen hold off Frankfort, 28-20

FROSTBURG — Kaden McElhenny ran for two touchdowns, threw for another and picked off two passes on defense and Mountain Ridge built a big lead and held off Frankfort in the end for a 28-20 victory in freshman football Thursday evening.

Daniel Bittinger ran for 175 yards and McElhenny finished with 104 yards rushing for the Miners (1-4), who led 28-0 until Frankfort scored three touchdowns in the final minutes.

McElhenny scored on a one-yard run and ran for the conversion to put the Miners up 8-0 in the first quarter, and Bittinger dashed 53 yards for a score in the second to make it 14-0. Geoffrey Culler caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from McElhenny to give Mountain Ridge a 20-0 halftime lead.

After a scoreless third quarter, McElhenny scored on a six-yard run in the fourth, and Bittinger’s run for the conversion extended the spread to 28-0 with 2:53 to play.

Blake Rhodes got Frankfort on the board with a five-yard run. Carter Houdersheldt threw a 27-yard touchdown strike to Trenton Morgan and also had a 32-yard TDā€ˆpass to Rhodes for the Falcons, who recovered three onside kicks in the fourth quarter.

Bittinger also intercepted a pass and Noah Dimichele had five tackles to lead the Mountain Ridge defense.

The Miners will host Fort Hill on Monday at 5 p.m.
