W&J, Alderson Broaddus both sweep FSU swim teams

FROSTBURG — The Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming teams both lost to Washington & Jefferson and Alderson-Broaddus on Saturday afternoon in the Bobcats pool.

The men lost to Washington & Jefferson 178-72 and to Alderson Broaddus 153- 89.     

Sophomore Jonathan Shepard, in the 200-meter breaststroke, was the only first-place finisher for the Bobcats  completing the event in 2:37.58. He then raced to the wall again finishing in 1:11.42 for second place in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Freshman Aleksander Combs claimed a pair of third-place finishes as he touched the wall at 10:39.82 in the 800-meter free with junior Jacob Aylward following close behind finishing in 11:10.63. Combs then went on to take third in the 200-meter butterfly with a final time of 2:33.02.

Finishing in 2:13.83, senior Jesse Gregory followed up with a third-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle. Gregory also competed in the 50-meter freestyle finishing in 27.04, which placed him in third.

The Bobcat women fell to both Washington & Jefferson and Alderson-Broaddus 161-87 and 167-81, respectively.

Junior Kaitlyn Donch claimed second place in the 800-meter freestyle (10:24.23) and took second again in the 200-meter breaststroke at 3:00.71.

Sophomore Maci Quintanilla took fourth place as she finished the 100-meter backstroke in 1:19.91 and took fourth again as she competed in the 200-meter backstroke (2:52.75).

Freshman Meaghan Dix finished the 200-meter butterfly in 3:09.47 and then the 100-meter butterfly in 1:25.20 for two fourth-place finishes. Junior Meredith Johnson was able to take fourth in the 50-meter freestyle in 30.65.

The Bobcats visit at Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m.

    FROSTBURG — Spenser Love scored five goals, with three coming in the second half, and Devin Colegrove had a goal and two assists to lead Frostburg State to a 17-10 win over St. Mary’s in college men’s lacrosse Saturday.

  • Carr has 10 RBIs as Northern splits pair

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.
