Shirey’s 767, Sipple’s 18th 300 area’s best

Alex Shirey rolled 767 at the

Bowler and Mike Sipple

bowled his 18th career 300

game at

White Oaks

to lead are

scoring this

week. Sipple’s

755 was

the next

highest set

as well.

Bobby

Greene had

753 at Wilson

Lanes and

Bryan Jose

had 752 and

C.P. Sines 744 at Rainbow.

Brad Deter had 705 at White

Oaks and John Barbe had 691

at Wilson to lead the Seniors

this week. Sharon Opel was

high for the ladies with 653

and Vicki Coughlin shot 647.

Randy Cubbage had 695 to

lead the Juniors and Carter

Nave bowled 647.

On the PBA, Ryan Ciminelli

has made the last two shows

and won the most recent telecast.

His wins were a great

example of how lane conditions

change. As the only lefthander

on both telecasts, he

was able to play virtually the

same line both weeks. The

three right-handers on each

show played a variety of lines

and had major differences in

the two lanes. Before you

think I’m picking on left-handers,

the right-handers actually

misused an advantage they

had.

On the tour telecasts, the

bowlers get a 40-minute practice

session. During this time,

the right-handers could have

easily played a similar shot on

the outside portion of the lane

and created a shot for themselves.

Chris Barnes even

remarked on the telecast, “We

didn’t do a very good job of

breaking down the right side.”

League bowlers can learn a

lot from these telecasts. Especially,

they can watch how virtually

every tour bowler

throws straight at spares and

most of them use a plastic

spare ball. If these bowlers,

competing for thousands of

dollars, think a plastic ball

makes spares easier, it’s

something we all need to consider.

You can also learn how the

bowlers adjust through the

course of three games. The

simplest adjustment rule is

“move the direction you

miss.” If you miss the pocket

to the left, move left. If you

miss the pocket to the right,

move right. This fundamental

correction is one of the easiest

and most overlooked ways to

improve your game.
