CUMBERLAND — Dakota Bierman scored a pair goals to lead the top-ranked and undefeated Allegany Campers to the Cumberland City League championship with a 3-0 win over fifth-ranked Bishop Walsh Saturday at Brother Stephen F. Paul Spartan Stadium during the Bishop Walsh Homecoming.
Blake Geatz got the Campers on the board at 31:42 of the first half when he scored on a kick that ricocheted off a Bishop Walsh player. Then, with 18 seconds left in the half, Bierman scored on an assist by Corey Knipple to make it 2-0 at the half.
Bierman closed the scoring at 4:40 of the second half with an assist by Austin Campbell.
“Allegany did a really nice job today,” said BW coach Joe Rowan. “They played hard and our kids tried to regroup at halftime, but we were unable to mount a comeback. So our congratulations to Allegany for winning the City title.”
Allegany outshot BW, 16-6, and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Allegany keeper Nate Condor had three saves while Bishop Walsh’s Lucas Bruck had nine.
Allegany (10-0 overall, 3-0 City) will visit Mountain Ridge on Monday. Bishop Walsh (11-5, 2-2) will host Southern on Monday.
Allegany won the junior varsity match on Saturday, 3-1, with goals from Max Phillips, Bryce Sainz and Logan Wartlaub. Andrew Saku scored for the Spartans on an assist from Jacob Dale.
