CUMBERLAND — Capree Garner torched the Trojans for 38 points and inspired efforts by Gina Rievel and Courtney Landis came up short during Allegany College of Maryland’s 71-63 loss to Harford Wednesday in Maryland JUCO basketball.
Garner made 15 total field goals, including one three, and converted her seven shots at the foul line to lead all scorers. The Hawks also got 10 points each from Monique Cheek and Chrineicia Tedder.
Rievel, the fourth-leading scorer in NJCAA Division II with a 22.4 average, finished with 21 points on 10 baskets. Landis had seven field goals and went 6 of 7 at the line, and Alyssa Lantz added nine points for the Trojans.
Allegany slips to 3-12 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Trojans get right back to work tonight when they host Potomac State at 6 p.m.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Potomac State blasted its way to a 21-point lead at halftime against Westmoreland Wednesday evening and held off the Wolfpack for a win during an early Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference matchup at Dana G. Lough Gymnasium.
Heather Lesniowski led Potomac State with 14 points, Jenna McAtee added 13 and Leah Hershberger finished with 10 as the Catamounts improved to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the WPCC. Kirsten Rayner led the team with eight rebounds and Kiki Dudley finished with nine points, five steals and three assists.
Westmoreland was led by Danielle Murphy’s 14 points. Shalia Williams scored 13 and Christina Wagner added 11.
The Catamounts offense ran smoothly as they got out to a 44-23 lead at halftime, but foul trouble kept Potomac State from finding a rhythm during the second half. PSC finished with 28 total fouls, almost twice as many as the Wolfpack’s 16.
The Catamounts play tonight, 6 p.m., in Cumberland against ACM.
