Mountain Ridge holds off BW, 47-38

— FROSTBURG — Bishop Walsh mounted a charge during the second quarter to draw to within two points at halftime, but Mountain Ridge regained control in the second half to collect a 47-38 win over Bishop Walsh Friday evening during Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action in Frostburg.

The Miners played their way to a 15-8 lead at the end of one quarter, but a push by the Spartans in the second brought the score to 25-23 Mountain Ridge at halftime. The lead grew to six, 35-29, through three quarters before settling at nine in the fourth.

Rashawn Johnson dropped 20 points, making seven shots from the floor and all four of his attempts at the line. Steven Glasbrenner added 10 points to the Miners’ cause.

The Spartans received a 15-point effort from Kier Turner and 12 more from Isaac Mourier.

Mountain Ridge won the junior varsity game 48-11 as Tyler Thomas scored 20 points.

The Miners (6-5, 2-2 AMAC) are at Allegany on Monday, while the Spartans (5-10, 3-3) play at Frankfort, also on Monday.

SALISBURY, Pa. — Rakwon Hinton scored 27 points to lead three players in double figures as Ferndale defeated Salisbury Friday evening.

Hinton made 11 baskets, including one three, and dropped 4 of 5 free throws. Corey McCombie hit three three-pointers on his way to 13 points and Isaiah Sajatovich finished with 12.

Nathan Bodes led Salisbury with 16 points. He made seven baskets, including the Elks lone three, and a free throw. He was the only Elks player to score more than 10 points. Diori Pattison finished with eight.

Salisbury hosts Meyersdale on Monday.
