— HAMPTON, Va. — Former Moorefield standout Korey Reed put Garrett in front with a two-run double in the eighth inning to lead the Lakers to a 7-4 win and a sweep of Thomas Nelson.

Cody Podbasnik took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as Garrett won the opening game 15-0.

Looking for a split after Garrett dominated the early game, the Gators scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score. A scoreless sixth and seventh led to extra innings, but Reed helped his team act quickly and take the lead for good.

Reed worked the first seven innings and had 10 strikeouts. Aaron Stoner added two more strikeouts in the eighth.

Podbasnik had six strikeouts through six innings and lost his no-hit bid on an infield single in the bottom of the sixth. He left with a 12-0 lead when Bryce Belcher entered.

Belcher hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh and Jason Hepple launched a three-run shot in the fifth. Mike Bolla had a double and two singles and Carlos King singled twice.

The Lakers play a pair at Prince George’s today at 1 p.m.
