FSU’s Lovend, Moore sweep CAC awards

YORK, Pa. — After an impressive spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, Frostburg State softball junior Caitlin Lovend and freshman Mary Ann Moore swept the Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards, Monday.

Lovend was named the Softball Player of the Week after exploding for a .640 batting average (16-for-25) during FSU's 7-0 record at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. Lovend belted a triple and five home runs during the trip (1.320 slugging percentage), scored 12 runs and drove in 16. She had at least one hit in all seven games and added four walks for a .690 on-base percentage.

Moore was named the Softball Pitcher of the Week after posting a 3-0 record in four pitching appearances on the team's undefeated trip. Moore scattered 13 hits in the three victories and eight walks, leading to six earned runs, while fanning 21, including 13 Ks in the final game of the trip against Lasell. At the plate, Moore also contributed a single, double, triple, four walks, four runs scored and two RBIs.

Lovend is currently first in the league in home runs (5), second in RBIs (20) and is third in batting average (.449).
