CUMBERLAND — Kia Whitley scored 25 points, Jourdan Stahope 20 and Shakena Williams 18 and Frederick Community College used a big second half to defeat Allegany College, 81-56, spoiling the Trojans’ season opener Tuesday evening at Bob Kirk Arena.
The Cougars led by only 37-31 at halftime, but outscored Allegany 44-25 in the second half. Whitley scored 15 of her 25 points after halftime as Frederick took advantage of extra opportunities on the offensive end and in the transition game.
Madison Nightengale hit a pair of three-point goals and finished with 16 points, Derica Souder canned three three-pointers and had 14 points for Allegany. Monique Rhodes went 6 for 6 from the foul line and had 12 points.
“I am proud of the way the girls battled and we will just continue forward from here, developing and being more disciplined on defense so we avoid giving teams a chance to go on a run and gain the momentum shift that hurt us in this game,” said first-year ACM coach Bethany Sindy. “We can and will learn from this.’’
