FSU’s Graham repeats as CAC’s Player of the Year

YORK, Pa. — Frostburg State junior Adria Graham, a former high school star at Northern Garrett, was named the Capital Athletic Conference women’s soccer Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, becoming the fifth player in league history to win the award twice.

Frostburg State head coach Brian Parker was named Coach of the Year, and defender Erin Proctor, midfielder Courtney Mack and sophomore Stephanie Fazenbaker, a former high school star at Mountain Ridge, joined Graham on the CAC first team.

• Graham grabbed the league scoring lead early in the year and ran increased her lead throughout the season. She lead the league in points (54), goals (23) and game-winning goals (5), and was third in assists (8), trailing only a pair of teammates, turned in three hat tricks and registered at least one point in 14 games.

• Parker was awarded Coach of the Year honors after leading the Bobcats to their first conference tournament title. FSU finished 4-1-1 in the CAA and 14-4-2 overall.

 • Proctor, a senior, repeated on the first team after anchoring one of the league’s top defenses. The Bobcats had the third-lowest goals against average (0.77) and had seven shutouts. Proctor also scored two goals.

• Mack, a junior, earned first-team honors in her first season with the Bobcats. She was fourth on the team in scoring (14 points) with five goals and four assists.

• Fazenbaker led the conference in assists (15) and finished third in points (31). She had one point in 13 games and had two or more assists in three contests.

Together, Graham, the league leader in goals, and Fazenbaker, the league leader in assists, combined for 85 points. Fazenbaker was a two-time Times-News high school Player of the Year (2008, 2009) and Graham a three-time offensive Player of the Year (2007, 2008, 2009).

FSU defender Liz Seligman and midfielder Brooke Longo were named to the second team.

  • Carr has 10 RBIs as Northern splits pair

    HANCOCK — Brooks Carr hit two home runs and drove in 10 runs on the day as Northern split a pair of games at the Hancock Easter Classic, beating Broadfording Academy 26-1 before losing to St. James 10-6. Against Broadfording, Carr hit a three-run homer in a 10run first inning, and also had a two-run double, an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to finish with seven RBIs. He also teamed with Brett Oates on a four-inning no-hitter. Carr struck out seven over the first three innings and Oates fanned two in the fourth.

    OAKLAND — Mountain Ridge hit three home runs on the day and used a five-run second to pull away from Southern, 9-2, in an Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday morning at Southern to extend its winning streak to 58 games.
