Romney’s Holt fires no-hitter

— BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Tyler Holt threw a no-hitter and Shane Ennis fired a one-hitter as Romney Post 91 completed a sweep over Buckhannon Post 7 Sunday afternoon in Buckhannon.

Romney pounded out 15 hits in both five-inning games, with Holt’s no-hitter coming in the 11-0 opener and Ennis’ gem in the 13-0 second game.

Holt struck out five with a walk and Ennis fanned 10 and gave up two walks.

Post 91 improved to 24-5 and visits Grantsville Post 214 tonight for a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader at Garrett College.

Jamison Jones had the hot bat in Buckhannon. He was 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in the opener and was 2-for-3 with another double in the second game. Braiden Popluhar and Matt Maiers both had two hits while Ennis had two RBIs.

In the second game, Tyler Connelly had four hits, and Josh Bane and Ethan Turner had two each. Bane drove in two runs.

Romney blanked Elkins 2-0 and 9-0 on Saturday.

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Farrady Post 24 concluded its season by sweeping Romney Post 91 in Junior American Legion action Sunday at Hampshire High School.

The Shimko brothers, Dyland and Andrew, accounted for eight of Farrady’s 13 runs in the 13-1 first game as both finished with four RBIs. Dylan had two doubles and Andrew two base hits.

Michael Livingston had two doubles, Michael Strietbeck two hits with a double and winning pitcher Patrick Russell held Romney to only two hits, a double by J. Judy and a single to B. Ault.

In the second game, Livingston drove in four runs off of three hits — a triple, double and a single — to lead Farrady’s 12-5 victory.

Winning pitcher Colton Winner drove in three with a double and a single. Dylan Shimko had a triple and Strietbeck had two singles.

R. Kesner led Romney with three hits including a triple and a double. Ault, Grace and Young each had two singles.

Farrady finished its season 11-19.
