Fairmont girls control Frankfort, win 50-29

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont Senior had three girls score in double figures to defeat Frankfort 50-29 Saturday evening at Fairmont.

Kaden Whaley finished with 11 points, Emily Stoller 10 and Kelsey Morrone each had 10.

Mikala Miller led the Falcons with 10 points. Madison Pfaff added seven and Katie Jan five.

Fairmont never trailed at the breaks, leading 14-7, 30-16 and 38-21.

Frankfort visits Fort Hill Wednesday evening with the junior varsity game starting at 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow at 7:30.

 

Frostburg Elks Hoop Shoot Jan. 20

FROSTBURG — The Frostburg Elks will hold its annual “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Frostburg Armory. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and the contest will start at 2 o’clock.

Boys and girls ages 8 to 13 are eligible to compete. Age is determined as of April 1, 2013. Winners in each division will advance to the West District Hoop Shoot in Frederick.  Winners at the West District Hoop Shoot will compete in the State Hoop Shoot in February. State winners advance to the Southeast Central Region Championship in Charleston, W.Va., and winners in the region championship compete in the National Finals in Springfield, Mass. Winners at the national level have their names placed on a plaque in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The age divisions are 8-9, 10-11, 12-13. Participants are allowed to compete in only one local hoop shoot. Girls and boys 8-9 division will use a girls regulation ball. The 8-9 division will shoot four feet in front of the regulation foul line.
