Sell sends Alco over Calvary

Campers win fifth of sixth games behind senior’s season-best 25

CRESAPTOWN — Kristin Sell hit four three-point goals and scored a season-high 25 points to lead third-ranked Allegany to a 52-41 win over Calvary Christian Thursday evening.

Sell, a senior guard, hit 10 field goals and a free throw for the Campers (7-3), now 5-1 in their last six games.

Rachel Wormack and Micah Wormack also had big games for Allegany, Rachel getting 11 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, and Micah scoring seven points and grabbing a game-high 18 rebounds.

Karly Hipsley, who sank 12 of 13 free throws, led Calvary (6-4) with 14 points. Savannah Reed had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, Kerenne Shaffer added nine points and three steals and Chesni Ultis had four steals.

Allegany grabbed the lead in the first half and kept it the rest of the way, although Calvary cut it to six points at one juncture in the second half. The Campers led 33-18 at halftime and 43-31 after three quarters.

“Chesni Ultis did another good job defensively in our box-and-one defense, but Kristin Sell was able to get open and she shot the lights out,’’ said Calvary coach Rusty Kitzmiller.

“We played hard and didn’t give up, and got it down to six at one point. I’m proud of the girls for the way they played and hung in there.”

Calvary will host Johnstown Christian today at 5:30. Allegany will entertain Fort Hill in a makeup game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
