Chad Gable Nesbit’s Open champion

PLUM BOROUGH, Pa. — Chad Gable beat a field of 209 of the top amateurs and touring pros to win the Nesbit's Lanes Open near Pittsburgh the weekend of July 6-7.

Gable qualified 11th on his squad with a five-game total of 1,013 on very demanding lane conditions to make the 48-bowler finals. In match play, he defeated Mike Shady 438-395 (two game matches), Jesse Smith 437-355 and Tim Pfeifer 480-441.

Shady is a well-known national bowling instructor and has won several PBA regional events as well as two USBC tournament eagles.

In the six-man finals, Gable trailed by over 100 pins with two games remaining but overcame his deficit with two big games to claim the $4,000 first prize.

This tournament draws bowlers from around the country and the field included four-time PBA titleist Bill O'Neill, PBA titleist Chris Loschetter, Liz Johnson, the first woman to ever make a men's PBA TV show, and dozens of other regional PBA bowlers as well as top amateurs and collegiate bowlers.

A number of bowlers with local connections also competed, but only Nick Atkinson qualified for the 48-man finals, where he finished 25th.
