Clippard among four added to all-star team
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — San Francisco’s Tim Hudson, Cincinnati’s Alfredo Simon, San Diego’s Huston Street and Washington’s Tyler Clippard have been added to the NL roster for Tuesday’s All-Star game.
They replace a quartet of pitchers who started Sunday: the Giants’ Madison Bumgarner, the Reds’ Johnny Cueto, the Padres’ Tyson Ross and the Atlanta Braves’ Julio Teheran.
Hudson is 7-6 with a 2.87 ERA, and Simon is 12-3 with a 2.70 ERA. Street has 24 saves and a 1.09 ERA, and Clippard is 6-2 with a 2.03 ERA in 43 relief appearances.
Phelps beaten in 100 meters
ATHENS, Ga. — Michael Phelps, winner of 18 Olympic golds and 22 medals overall, was beaten by Yannick Agnel in the 100-meter freestyle at the Bulldog Grand Slam.
Agnel, who won two gold medals for France at the 2012 London Olympics and trains with Phelps at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, won with a time of 49.37 to Phelps’ 49.42.
Phelps won the 100-meter butterfly on Friday and the 100-meter backstroke on Saturday.
