Kyle’s homer in eighth sends Post 13 to win

— CUMBERLAND — Jake Kyle smashed a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to send Fort Cumberland Post 13 to an 8-6 victory over Berkeley in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader at Legion Field.

Berkeley earned a split by pounding out 19 hits in a 13-3 second-game win.

In the opener, Fort Cumberland (13-6) led 5-2 and was only three outs from victory when Berkeley struck for three runs in the top of the seventh, then took 6-5 lead in the eighth on an RBI single by Darrin Zombro.

Now three outs from defeat, Post 13’s Brandon Markwood reached on a strikeout and passed ball to begin the bottom of the eighth, and moved to third on a single by Brady Hillegas. One out later, Hafer homered over the right field fence to end the game.

Kyle had a homer, double, four RBIs and two stolen bases to lead Post 13. Hillegas doubled and singled, Jack Hawkins doubled and Trevor Porter hit a two-run single.

For Berkeley, Jarin Jenkins doubled and singled, Darrin Zombro singled twice and Stevie Hite had two-singles, including one that brought home the tying run in the top of the seventh.

Berkeley belted four home runs in the second game, with Tyler Gross hitting two round-trippers and a double and driving in four runs. Zombro and Cody Butts also homered and Josh Kocher singled four times.

Chris Fram hit a solo home run and Hillegas doubled for Fort Cumberland, which hosts Grantsville Tuesday, plays a doubleheader at Romney on Wednesday, hosts Morgantown on Thursday and entertains Frederick in a doubleheader on Sunday.

ELKINS, W.Va. — Chance Price homered in both games as Elkins took a pair from Grantsville.

In the first game, Price homered and singled and Kevin McDermott hit two RBIs singles in support of Tommy Hammonds, who allowed only four hits and struck out six.

Seth Holler singled twice for Grantsville.

In the second game, Elkins led 4-1 through three innings before blowing it open with an eight-run fourth. Price hit a solo home run, Daniel Crawford had a double and two singles, Jake Wyatt a double, single and four RBIs and McDermott two more RBI singles for Elkins.

Brooks Carr belted a solo home run and Austin Reckart had two singles for Grantsville (5-20), which plays at Fort Cumberland on Tuesday at 5:30.
