Brayboy helps Trojans trip Wolfpack

CUMBERLAND — Alex Brayboy finished with 20 points and nine rebounds for Allegany College of Maryland as the Trojans put on a clinic in the first half, but had to sweat out a 65-55 win over Westmoreland Saturday at Bob Kirk Arena.

The Trojans started out hot by scoring 39 points and committing only six turnovers during the first half to build a 20-point lead. In the second half, the Wolfpack forced the Trojans into 13 errors and outscored ACM 36-26.

“It was a tale of two halves,” Allegany coach Mike Baker said. “I thought we really played well in the first half, both on defense and offense, but we need to mature a little more and come back to play the second 20 minutes the same way we played the first.”

Brayboy’s nine rebounds were a team-high, but Rick Mosley added eight boards to go with his team-leading 23 points. Chris Day passed out five assists to go with four points.

Westmoreland was led in scoring by Julian Thompson’s 17 points, and Andy Carter’s 16.

Now 2-7 after snapping a 5-game losing streak, the Trojans will play again on Monday when they travel to Anne Arundel for a non-conference game scheduled for 7 p.m.

Garrett 90, Chesapeake 84

The Lakers looked like a totally different team in the second. They had multiple periods where they didnt make a shot. At one point, Chesapeake scored eight unanswered points with free throws.

After grabbing just four offensive rebounds in the first half, the Skipjacks scored 10 points off of seven offensive rebounds in the second. They cut the lead to two points with four minutes left.

At 2:30, Akanni Salako’s jumper tied the game. Garrett built the lead back up to six with some good minutes from D.J. Ritchie who went 3-for-4 from the free throw line in the final minutes.

Dion Bivens led Chesapeake with 18, Salako ended with 17. Chadwick Church and Geran Pope each had 10.
