Oakland holds Pirates to five hits in sweep

— OAKLAND — Oakland pitchers held the Potomac Pirates to only five hits overall as the Oaks swept the Pen-Mar-WV League doubleheader, 12-2 and 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Southern Garrett High School.

The Oaks’ Scott Wildesen and Mike Logsdon combined for eight strikeouts in their 12-2, five-inning opening game win. Nathan King and Cody Toothman struck out nine in the 6-0 second game victory.

Wildesen-Logsdon held the Pirates to only two hits while King-Toothman gave up three in seven innings.

Toothman led Oakland at the plate, going 6 for 7 overall with seven RBIs and a run scored. Mike Logsdon belted a three-run home run to hightlight Oakland’s six-run first in the opener for one of his three hits. He also doubled and scored twice. Corey Helbig scored three times going 3 for 4. Billy Reams had two hits and an RBIā€ˆand King doubled.

Cody Humberson went 2 for 3 with an RBI and he scored once in the 6-0 second game.

Oakland finished with 24 hits overall including 13 in the opener.

Chad Deneen doubled and Micah Stair had a base hit and an RBI for the Pirates only two hits in the opener and Stair doubled for one of the team’s three hits in the second game.

Oakland (4-2) plays the Cumberland Orioles at Bel Air Field on Saturday and takes on Tri-State on Sunday at the Hot Stove Complex. Both doubleheaders will begin at 1 p.m. The Potomac Pirates (0-4) plays Tri-State at the Hot Stove Complex on Saturday, 1 p.m., before being idle on Sunday.
