Romney rally stuns Elkins

— ROMNEY, W.Va. — Ethan Turner’s liner with two-outs in the bottom of the ninth capped an 11-run rally as Romney Post 91 handed Elkins Post 29 its first loss of the season, 12-11, Monday night at Hampshire High School.

Elkins (4-1) had built an 11-1 lead through six innings. Romney began its comeback with three runs in the seventh, one in the eighth and pulled out the victory with seven runs in the ninth.

Scott Hessler’s three-run triple tied it at 11 before Turner’s eventual walk-off base hit.

Brandon Stotler had three of Romney’s 13 hits, going 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Shane Ennis and Matt Maiers both had two hits and two RBIs.

Romney returns to Elkins to participate in the Hillbilly Classic beginning on Thursday, at 2 p.m., against Grantsville Post 214.

FROSTBURG — Winning pitcher Dylan Shimko and Meshach Metz homered to power Frostburg Farrady Post 24 to a 9-0 victory over Brunswick for a split of their Junior American Legion doubleheader Sunday at Mountain Ridge.

Shimko pitched five scoreless innings and finished with a homer and a double at the plate. Metz homered and singled, Lucas Lowry doubled and singled and Michael Livingston, who completed the shutout with two innings of relief work, hit a double for Farrady.

Dylan Rowland had three singles for Brunswick.

In the first game, Billy Munday doubled and singled to lead Brunswick to a 7-1 win.

Shimko doubled and singled and Livingston had two singles for Farrady.
