Snoberger, Offstein win Lisa Wade 5K; Sober, Piggott repeat in Masters Division

WESTERNPORT — Woody Snoberger won the men’s title, Molly Offstein was first among the women and Jen Sober and John Piggott repeated as Masters Division winners in the 14th annual Lisa Wade 5K on Saturday.

A field of 166 runners and 79 walkers participated in the 5K, 1.5-Mile Fun Run/Walk, and the seventh annual Corey’s Course. The race is held in memory of Lisa Wade of Swanton and her cousin, Corey Broadwater.

Snoberger, 29, of Ridgeley, W.Va., led all runners to the line in a time of 16:04, with runner-up Nathan Whitacre, 22, just behind at 16:19. Shane Ickes, 20, of Keyser, W.Va., was third in 17:03.

Offstein, 16 and a Mountain Ridge High standout, was the first female in 18:35, which placed her eighth overall. Second place went to Heather Parks, 29, of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., in 18:38, and Julie Gessler, 20, of Ellicott City, was third in 19:45.

In the Masters Division, John Piggott, 49, of Williamsburg, Va., finished in 18:27 for seventh overall. Jen Sober, of McHenry, defended her title with a repat win in 21:28, which placed her 27th overall.

The top high school finishers were Leland Henderson of Keyser (17:42) and Danielle Haynes (20:19).

The Fun Run/Walk was won the Jarod Lutes of Westernport, with a time of 8:59, followed by 9-year-old Ian Kiddy of LaVale (10:25), and Bernie Ickes of Keyser (10:55). The females were led by 5-year-old Bailey Ferguson (11:25), Pam Arnold of Westernport (12:53) and 7-year-old Isabella Yoder of Accident (13:47).

The race is hosted by the Georges Creek Soccer Club through the direction of Steve Amann and the timing services of T.R.A.C. Services.

State soccer clinic Thursday at Mtn. Ridge

FROSTBURG — The Maryland State Soccer Clinic will be held Thursday, 7 p.m., in the Mountain Ridge High School auditorium.

The clinic is mandatory for all persons interested in refereeing in the state of Maryland this year. A referees meeting will precede the clinic, at 6 p.m.


Hawks to distribute equipment Saturday

RIDGELEY, W.Va. — The Ridgeley Hawks Pee Wee football team will distribute equipment on Saturday at the practice field. The A Team will handout begins at 8 a.m., the B Team at 9 a.m. and the C Team at 10 a.m.
