Romney sweeps Preston

— ROMNEY, W.Va. — Romney Post 91 swept Preston County Post 56 to improve its record to 18-3 Sunday afternoon at Hampshire High School.

Romney, behind the 15-strikeout, two-hit performance of winning pitcher Shane Ennis, beat Preston in the opener 2-0 and then pouned out 11 hits to put away Preston 11-4 in the second game.

Jamison Jones and Braeden Popluhar each had two of Romney’s six hits in the first game. Josh Crawford drove in six runs in going 3-for-5 to lead Romney’s output in the second game. David Delawder, Tyler Hott and Cole Smith all went 2-for-3. Delawder had two RBIs and Hott one.

Matt Maiers held Preston to six hits and struck out eight in getting the win.

On Saturday, Thane Cutter had four hits and four RBIs as Romney defeated Jefferson in a seven-inning shortened game 14-4 with a seven-run seventh.

Jones was 3-for-4 and Maiers had two hits and three RBIs.

Romney visits Uniontown, Pa., Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.

CUMBERLAND — Two pitchers combined to hole Fort Cumberland Post 13 to 11 hits in two games without giving up a run as Mount Airy notched two shutout victories Sunday at Allegany College.

Rauch picked up the complete-game 4-0 win in the opener by allowing seven scattered hits and helping the offense with an RBI triple.

Post 13’s Dylan Shockey doubled and Jack Hawkins had two singles.

Shadoan struck out seven and held Post 13 to four hits with only Adam DuVall’s double the only extra base hit allowed. Rauch had a double and Shirk two hits for Mount Airy.

Fort Cumberland (12-12) will play Blue Ridge on Thursday at 10 a.m. as part of the Western Maryland Classic at Legion Field.
